A Day of Freedom

I know that all of us rejoiced when we heard that school was canceled today. I know that most of us (After the intial scream of joy) went straight back to bed. I actually got on my bike and became a tourist in my hometown. I took my camera and biked around to many tourist areas and took some extremely touristy shots (I feel ashamed). Although I hate being thought of as a gaijin tourist in my hometown, I bit the bullet and managed to snap a few good shots.

I first headed towards Tetsugaku no Michi, or Philosophers Walk, by crossing the Kamo river.

The Kamo river runs through Kyoto and it's pretty famous for hosting a lot of Kyoto gaijin BBQ gatherings

I rode along the little canal of Philosophers Walk when I came upon this path that lead to this little shrine.

The sign read, Nezumi (Mouse) Shrine, so I rode up a little hill and took a peak.

I recently found out that only Shinto Shrines have "Purifying" water, Buddhist Temples do not (This is my favorite photo)

The Nezumi of the Mouse Shrine

A Fox

After exiting the shrine I rode along aimlessly and found myself at Nanzenji.

Nanzenji is a famous Zen Temple at the foot of the eastern mountains of Kyoto

(Another one of my favorites)

It was then I realized I was close to the location of the school I used to go to so I headed in that direction...

...it was depressing to find the building had been torn down and replaced with houses...

Then I headed to Shijo, the downtown area of Kyoto and stopped off to have my second breakfast at McDonald's (It was 10:00am at this point)

Greasy, fatty, crappy, I know, but it still tastes good

As started heading to my next undecided destination, I passed by my favorite store in Kyoto...

Just can't live without my Dope Wear...

I started to head home when I decided I would pop by the school I used to go to (Not the torn down building). I spent some time in the office talking to the few people I knew there, teachers, and office staff, and then I sat in for one of the middle school classes. I was actually in a school building when I didn't have to be...(AH!)

That was how I spent my day of freedom, courtesy of Natalie's Typhoon dance. I realized that there are a lot more hours in a day than I thought. After I had finished all of that, I was home at 11am. Maybe I need to start getting up earlier...nah...

It's cool that you got a head start on your day and didn't go back to bed; I actually did the same thing...sorta. After I came to school and found out that NO ONE was there, I decided to bike around the island for a while (b/c the island is so culturally enlightening). I even had the same exact breakfast as you...yeah mcdonald's is crap in it's worst form, but hey...sometimes you gotta indulge u know? The pictures are really nice :D
