Mission Impossible?



A few days before school got out, we discussed the matter of friendship in Japanese class. People stated their own definitions of the term "Yujyou" (Friendship, loosely translated).

Of course, its undefinable,

The definition is only true to one person. Yourself. There is no general definition that satisfies everybody. Anyway, as the discussion progressed a rather interesting question came up,

Can there be a deep friendship between a male and female without any attraction?

I guess the attraction can be sexual, or not. There are always different degrees of attraction. But can there be a deep realtionship with ZERO attraction between a man and a women? Assuming their heterosexual.

Is it possible? Or is it a Mission Impossible?

I personally think that it is impossible. There's always attraction involved. I think that sometimes attraction can spawn great friendships.

I think that the attraction one can feel towards the opposite sex can allow a kind of friendship that can at times bring them closer than friends of the same sex. Not to say one is better than the other, but a true friendship with either sex is great. I have both male and female friends I love just as much, but the closeness I feel is simply not the same.
